Cooper, Cora (ed.) Violin Music by Women, Vol. 2
$35.00
The second volume of the anthology contains fourteen pieces covering the development of intermediate violinists. Beginning with pieces in the first three positions, by the end of the volume students can explore fifth through seventh position. The pieces are chosen to correspond to grade levels 3 and 4 of the ASTA String Syllabus, and cover a wide range of styles, including a Classical period sonata movement, a contemporary set of pieces by Marga Richter, and a delightful mambo by young New Zealand composer Claire Scholes. A Spanish-flavored piece by Josephine Trott, a tango, a mazurka, and two polonaises add an international flair. Several slower pieces provide opportunities to develop expression and tone, and two works focus on upbow staccato. These are great for recital or as supplemental pieces to the standard literature!
